Dubai, 18 December 2017: New solo routes are announced for the 25th edition of the Salomon Wadi Bih Run, which takes place from 3 – 4 February 2017 from the Golden Tulip Hotel in Dibba, Oman.

The original 72km team relay race takes place on Saturday 4 February 2017. All three solo events – 30km, 50km, 72km and the 50km family relay race – take place on Friday 3 February.

The course for the solo 30km race has changed to avoid the long stretches of asphalt from the coast, and instead starts at the Zighy Bay turnoff, straight into the narrowing Wadi and up to an elevation of approximately 500m. This is a great category for roadrunners who have completed a half marathon and are looking for something more challenging on different terrain.

The course for the solo 50km race follows the 30km route, but runners continue to ascend steep zigzag bends through the cliffs and onto a high plateau ridge with spectacular views of the Musandam peninsular mountains. This is a great category for road runners who have completed a marathon and are looking for something more challenging on different terrain.

The solo 72km route remains the same, with 1000m of ascent and descent mainly on graded gravel tracks.

A number of checkpoints support runners for all three distances.

Neil Young, Race Director, commented: “We continue to see increasing interest in the ultimate challenge of the 72km solo. Over the last 10 years, the category has developed from a few extreme athletes attempting something different to the ultimate long distance regional running challenge with stiff competition and some superb times. Anyone who completes this category deserves to be called the King of the Mountain!”

He added: “Regardless of your ability, there is a race for everyone. The original 72km team relay race is a favourite on the GCC running calendar. It really is a unique event, and many teams choose to make a weekend of it and camp on the beach ahead of the race. Make sure you register in advance to secure a slot for your team.”

Registration closes on 12 January 2017 at 11:59 PM or sooner if places sell out.
